Global additives manufacturer Struktol Co. of America is showcasing specialty additives engineered to improve process and product performance across a broad range of industries. The company’s focus, here, is on additives for plastics, including PVC and WPC (wood-plastic composites) industries. The company continues to develop innovative product solutions for these constantly evolving markets. Highlights showcased include:

  • Struktol VMO series additives which boast low odor and enable the adjustment of melt flow (MFI) of PP — including PP with PE contamination — for faster throughput rates that result in cost savings. These products are unique in that they include an odor neutralizer which will greatly reduce odor in the final compound. They also offer the ability to be introduced during extrusion/compounding as well as directly in injection molders.
  •  Struktol Oder and VOC Reduction additives are designed to reduce or eliminate problem odors and VOCs in automotive and packaging applications. The products range from simple odor mask/lubricant blends designed to disguise odors to complex neutralizer plus absorber blends intended to deactivate specific odor-causing species. These products work at low loading levels and can be easily added into most processes, including compounding, direct extrusion and injection molding. In addition to these highlighted products, Struktol is customizing product design around odor and volatile reduction in a variety of resin types
  • Struktol TPW series additives includes process aids, capstocks and coupling agents. Process aids are designed to provide unmatched processing and performance for WPC. Coupling agents are said to provide excellent flexural properties and are effective in reducing water absorption. Capstocks are said to offer unmatched durability combined with excellent scratch resistance, adhesion to substrate, processability and low gloss.

A more recent expansion to this product line are capstock compounds that provide a “soft feel” surface. These soft-touch compounds are said to offer superior anti-slip properties with greatly increased coefficient of friction and improved scratch resistance over traditional olefin-based caps. They are targeted to handrails, poolside decking, stairs, ramps and any other applications where a softer surface with better grip and feel are required. These compounds be supplied with or without a unique stabilization package and tailor-made to address the customer’s needs.
